Europe
The beginning of the fourteenth century marks an important transition in world history. This event, known as the Renaissance, was the revival from a once medieval society to a new modern world in Europe. During this time, new discoveries led to further knowledge allowing for a more advanced society. Art and literature flourished, creating many pieces still studied today.  New types of paintings were created including frescoes, which were painted on a wet, plaster surface in order for its colors to last longer. Sandro Botticelli, Giorgione and Michelangelo were particularly well known for their many frescoes. Additionally, writing became a popular form of entertainment introducing new formats; including the sonnet which is a fourteen line poem usually with themes involving love. Ending in the seventeenth century, the Renaissance was one of the most highlighted times in history. Without it, society would not have been able to accomplish what it has today.
